ICT Engineers, Building the World of Tomorrow

Adopted over 20 years ago by a group of public and private French institutions, the term ICT is the official acronym for the domain Information and Communication Technology.

ICT essentially covers the group of activities connected, directly or indirectly, to the processing of information, its circulation, storage, management and regulation.

ICT brings together many sectors which, together, make up the digital economy.

  • ICT hardware: the components industry, electronics
  • audio visual: computer imagery, virtual reality, video games
  • telecommunication and networking
  • software and assistance: IT consulting firms, IT service companies, software editors, engineering and technology applications companies

Over the last few decades, the ICT sector has grown, and continues to do so, at an incredible pace. Every day, new advances are made that change societies and economies around the world.  The ICT revolution has touched and continues to revolutionize a wide range of domains that include medicine, biology, physics, aeronautics, ecology, energy, transport, education, smart object technology, finance and research.  Furthermore, with the digitization of common everyday objects (newspapers, books, tickets, bills, etc.), the growing number of databases, and the Internet, ICT has become an integral component of daily life.

As they typically take on technical and managerial positions with high levels of responsibility and, in general, engage in work and research that aims at improving the day-to-day life of humankind, ICT engineers are among the key players who are building the world of tomorrow.
